About the Characters
Allegra Chesterfield |
Lord Edgerton;Viscount Ian McClellan |
At 23 years of age, Lady Allegra Chesterfield is considered an old maid which, until recently, has not bothered her in the least. Allegra is too intelligent and opinionated for her own good and, as the newest members of the ton, she and her family have become social pariahs. Under ordinary circumstances, this wouldn't bother the close-knit family, but these are not ordinary circumstances.
In London for her younger sister's debutante ball, Allegra feels her biological clock ticking and discovers that more than anything else, she wants to be a wife and mother. As luck would have it...this requires a man. She comes up with what she believes to be a foolproof plan, unfortunately, fate has other ideas. Allegra unwittingly finds herself embroiled in a multitude of disconcerting situations and becomes entangled with the handsome, arrogant and ofttimes confusing, Lord Edgerton; a man as much a scoundrel as she is an uncommon lady. Convinced the viscount's attentions are anything but gentlemanly, Allegra sees a way to accomplish her goal. In the process, she unwittingly opens a Pandora's box, and the simple, bucolic life she envisions for herself... simply disappears. |
When Lord Edgerton is beaten and left for dead in a warehouse at the London docks, he vows to find out who is responsible. The investigation leads him to suspect London's newest and oddest members of Society...the Chesterfields.
Through a series of misadventures, Ian finds himself face to face with the most aggravating, waspish, yet exquisite woman he has ever had the displeasure of meeting. Experience has taught the viscount that women are basically the same; scheming, self-absorbed liars, intent only on gaining wealth and a life of ease. But when Ian discovers Allegra Chesterfield has the exact same feeling towards men...he is intrigued. Strange plots and intrigues seem to follow wherever Allegra goes and, against his will, Ian finds himself drawn to her like a magnet. He is powerless to resist her charms, but questions to what lengths he is willing to go to discover if she and her family are involved in his assault. Is Allegra a consummate actress willing to do almost anything to get what she wants, whatever that may be, or is she an innocent pawn who is in as much danger as the viscount? What to do about it is the rub. |
